National Curriculum

Al Nibras International Bilingual School (NIS) adopts the Kuwaiti Ministry of Education curriculum to teach:

International Curriculum

NIS follows internationally recognized curricula that quantify and qualify students to be successful globally. NIS adopts the Common Core State Standards to teach ELA, Math, and SSE and the New Generation Science Standards to teach Science.

English and Arabic
kindergarten program

Elementary classes are based on a comprehensive curriculum that enables students to understand both English and Arabic languages and acquire fluency in conversation and writing through a variety of programs. Through these language programs, students are expected to:

  • Comprehend both English and Arabic languages through conversation and written literature.
  • Learn to write simple and complex sentences, paragraphs, essays, short stories.
  • Create, foster, and maintain interest in expression and communication.
  • Develop ability to engage appropriately in listener-speaker relationships.
  • Develop confidence and competence in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Develop cognitive ability and capacity to clarify thinking through oral language, writing, and reading.
  • Enhance emotional, imaginative, and aesthetic development through oral, reading and writing experiences.

Mathematics
kindergarten program

Mathematics in the Elementary School focuses on assisting students to build their numeracy foundation skills. Elementary School mathematics provide learning experiences such as:

  • Identifying, understanding, and demonstrating mathematical concepts.
  • Problem-solving skills in familiar and unfamiliar situations including those in real-life contexts.
  • Appropriate use of general mathematical rules in real-life contexts.
  • “Genius Map” Program for Grades 1 and 2: This program aims to develop number abilities and to improve problem-solving skills, memory, concentration, and time management.
  • At different stages in the ES Math Program, students will need to practice their memorization and speed of number facts at home – in addition & subtraction, and later multiplication & division – in order to proceed and advance successfully within the curriculum.

Science

Science in the Elementary School follows a model that integrates physical, life, and earth sciences. A key focus is on enriching students' observation and critical thinking skills. The learning tools range from high-interest textbooks & instructional materials, to hands-on projects & experiments. All practices are designed to transfer concepts to concrete applications.

Co-Curricular Subjects

Art: Elementary-level Visual Arts enables students to communicate ideas through different materials and forms. Their self-expression through art will help to build self-confidence, self-reflection, appreciation for the various genres of art, and artistic creators in past and present times, across cultures.

Music: Elementary School Music Curriculum enables students to participate individually and with a group, in demonstration of the following: understanding the components of artistic performance; understanding the elements of music such as melody, harmony, rhythm, scale, and pitch; exhibiting an understanding of the roles and significance of music in various cultures and historical periods.

Additional Academic Support Services
kindergarten program

NIS students who are diagnosed with learning difficulties are eligible to receive academic and therapeutic support services from the Intervention Department. A team of highly trained Intervention Specialists will provide additional academic support services in the areas of Arabic, English, Math, Speech and Language Therapy, and Occupational Therapy. In this context, the Individual Education Plan (IEP) is developed and adjusted to address a student’s particular needs & goals.
