At Al Nibras International Bilingual School (NIS), we make sure that learning is fun for our Preschool and Kindergarten students, so that the school environment is a “home away from home” where students like to be. Kindergarten is a very important stage where the child has the most rapid phase of growth and development. Additionally, it is the child's first experience in a school setting. The NIS KG Team works cooperatively and interactively to help students build a solid foundation. We at NIS are very excited to work with you and provide your child with all the necessary skills, knowledge, and experiences that will develop his/her social, emotional, motor, linguistic and cognitive abilities to become an independent learner, proud of his/her identity, believing in himself/herself and enjoying learning. A Parent-Student handbook is prepared to provide you with all the necessary information that will help us to embark together on this journey.
Learning in Kindergarten is an active, engaging process that involves development through fun, play, exploration, skill-practice within various subjects that foster the child’s curiosity and interest. Our children are involved in a variety of activities that require them to communicate with their teachers and classmates, think critically, acquire knowledge, and develop language throughout the day. All the activities provided work in developing not only the students’ educational needs but also the social, emotional and physical needs. NIS provides three levels of KG: Pre-KG, KG1, and KG2.
NIS adopts the Kuwaiti Ministry of Education curriculum to teach:
NIS follows internationally recognized curricula that quantify and qualify students to be successful globally.
Kindergarten classes are based on comprehensive curricula that enable our children to develop both fluency and literacy within the English and Arabic languages – through daily exposure, practice, and conversation. Our bilingual programs provide opportunities to our students to orally express their thoughts and needs, while enhancing their vocabulary and other language skills on various topics. Our language lessons also focus on pre-reading and writing skills that pave the way for the primary stage.
Mathematics in the Kindergarten Level focuses on counting and cardinality, the operation of adding and subtracting, recognizing shapes and sizes. Our students are immersed within hands-on activities that enable our youngsters to explain, explore, experiment, sort, classify, compare, match, and follow patterns. They learn by using a variety of concrete, real-life objects, manipulatives, and other materials that enhance their acquisition of mathematical skills through the transfer of mathematical applications from abstract concepts to sensory applications.
Genius Map is a special mathematics program based on the use of Soroban, or abacus, which is an ancient mathematical tool used for calculating basic number operations. The program is used to enhance students’ learning, problem solving skills, and self-confidence. Additionally, it aids in improving creative thinking, reinforcing self-discipline, and increasing concentration, speed, accuracy, memory power to perform calculations, ultimately, making math fun.
The benefits of Genius Map include, but are not limited to:
The KG Science Program introduces our young learners to foundational scientific concepts and principles through hands-on activities and experiments. Topics within life & Earth sciences and physical & environmental sciences will be the focus. Students will be involved in exploring & observing, asking questions & making predictions & conclusions based on what they see and learn. A variety of tech and text-based learning tools and guided interactive projects, will lead our students to develop their sense of curiosity, reasoning, critical-thinking skills, as well as an appreciation for the world around them.
The Visual Arts program helps our students to identify colors, shapes, and blends via drawing, or designing different characters and handicrafts. The focus is on the development of imagination, self-expression, fine-motor skill practice, and cognitive perception.
Although music and movement are incorporated within daily lessons and activities for all KG-Department classes, students begin attending classes with the NIS Music Teacher in KG2. The Music curriculum helps our students to participate individually and collectively in their development of music appreciation through singing, rhythm & movement, using instruments to create patterned-songs & melodies, and engaging within interactive performance.
The PE curriculum helps our students to enhance motor skills, develop healthy habits and feel successful when participating to the best of their ability in a wide variety of activities. They are encouraged to have fun and enjoy PE and swimming lessons.
NIS has an Intervention Department that is able to provide special academic and therapeutic services for students who have a diagnosed need, such as a learning or physical difficulty. In this context, the Individual Education Plan (IEP) is developed and adjusted to address students’ particular needs & goals. At NIS, we are great advocates of early intervention. We believe that early intervention may have its strongest impact when offered during the first few years of life to prepare a child for adult life. Early intervention means identifying and providing effective early support to children and young people who are at risk of poor outcomes. Early intervention works to reduce the risk factors and increase the protective factors in a child’s life. Effective early intervention works to prevent problems occurring, or to tackle them head-on when they do, before problems get worse. It also helps to foster a whole set of personal strengths and skills.

Al Nibras International Bilingual School (NIS) PE Department always tries to promote lifetime values, which are related to physical education and health-related subjects. During the PE lessons, our students obtain not only valuable physical skills and lifetime knowledge concerning the healthy lifestyle but also leadership skills needed for a lifetime.
The PE Department provides the opportunity to our students to master their skills via different curriculum sports activities such as volleyball, basketball, handball, Padel, field hockey, swimming, Track & Field, and so on. Those activities vary according to the students’ level of performance and are age-appropriate.
During the academic year, we organize multiple sports events, such as in school competitions, NIS Sports Day and fathers vs. sons football matches that are accompanied by the team’s trophies. Individual medals are granted to the best-performing students.
NIS is applying Genius Map, which is a special mathematics program, based on the use of Soroban or Abacus, an ancient mathematical tool used for calculating basic number operations.
Genius Map aims to develop an ability to master the skills of solving problems mentally, to improve children’s memory, concentration, judgment, observation, imaginative and critical thinking, logical and analytical reasoning ability and time management skills. In addition, it aims to build self-confidence and to improve discipline while teaching learners speed and accuracy. Most of all, it serves as a venue for more opportunities to think, share and have fun while learning. All these abilities and skills help the learners improve their overall academic achievements.
NIS library serves students, parents, faculty and staff with a joint collection of digital and print materials using Follett’s web-based Destiny library system. It is equipped with a projector and computer area for students and staff for further reading and research.
Students and parents can access Destiny from a location outside the school in order to check the catalog, log into their Google accounts, and enjoy reading from the E-library.
Students visit the library with their teacher once a week for English and Arabic alternatively. Students can check out one book at a time, librarians teach lessons in which many skills are combined: reading genres, research strategies, and library information skills.
